Tribunal Advocacy Course

03 -09 July 2010

We are now seeking ESO nominations for participation in the Tribunal Advocacy Course this year.

The Tribunal Advocacy Course (TAC) is held annually at the University of Canberra. The aim of this tertiary level, live-in course is to train participants in the preparation and presentation of cases before the Administrative Appeals Tribunal (AAT).
Previous graduates from the course have found that their course preparation and presentation skills have been significantly enhanced by their participation in the course.

Presenters at the course include Professor Hugh Selby from the Australian National University and members of the AAT.
The course coordinator is Ted Harrison, Director Litigation, Business Integrity and Legal Services.

A maximum of 16 participants is selected each year, ideally with a mix of DVA staff and ESO Pension Officers. Accommodation and meals for the duration of the course will be provided at the Pavillion on Northbourne and at the University of Canberra.

Eligibility criteria are clearly outlined on the attached nomination form and the TIP Consultative Committee considers each applicant carefully in light of these criteria.
The selection of participants will be made by the Course Director based on the information given on nomination forms.
All ESO applicants are to be approved by their State TIP Committee.
Where there are multiple nominations from one state, the Committee will rank the applicants in order of merit.

Successful applicants will be notified during May. Course material and prior reading material will be distributed in June.

Nominations of suitable candidates are to be received at the TIP office by no later than 20th April 2010.
Please note that only nominations accompanied by a completed Nomination Form will be considered.
