Statement of Principles Update

At the meeting of 7 August 2013 the RMA:
Determined Statements of Principles (SoPs) for:
  • malignant neoplasm of the anus and anal canal ……….51/2013 & 52/2013
  • fibrosing interstitial lung disease …………………..….…53/2013 & 54/2013
  • asbestosis…………………………………………………..55/2013 & 56/2013
  • sudden unexplained death………………………….……..57/2013 & 58/2013
  • Guillain-Barre syndrome………………..…………….……59/2013 & 60/2013
  • malignant neoplasm of the larynx…………………………61/2013 & 62/2013
  • hypertension………………………………………..……….63/2013 & 64/2013
  • gastro-oesophageal reflux disease………………………..65/2013 & 66/2013
  • motor neurone disease………………………….……….…67/2013 & 68/2013
These SoPs revoke the SoPs previously determined for these conditions.
These determinations conclude the previously advertised investigations into:
  • malignant neoplasm of the anal canal - [now known as: malignant neoplasm of the anus and anal canal]
  • fibrosing interstitial lung disease
  • asbestosis
  • sudden unexpected death - [now known as: sudden unexplained death]
  • Guillain-Barre syndrome
  • malignant neoplasm of the larynx
  • hypertension
  • gastro-oesophageal reflux disease
  • motor neurone disease
 All of the above SoPs take effect from 4 September 2013.


Determined Amendment SoPs for:
  • lumbar spondylosis ………69/2013 & 70/2013 - to comply with a direction of the Specialist Medical Review Council (Declaration No. 19 of 2013).
The Amendment SoPs for lumbar spondylosis take effect from 26 June 2013.


Decided to advertise the following investigations:
  • drug dependence and drug abuse, focussing on – "definition and consequential effect on factors"
  • alcohol dependence and alcohol abuse focussing on – "definition and consequential effect on factors"
  • posttraumatic stress disorder
  • diabetes mellitus, focussing on – "mumps and measles"


The Investigation Notices for these investigations appeared in the Government Notices Gazette of 21 August 2013.
