Overseas Travel Vaccinations for Gold Card Holders

Gold Card holders travelling overseas have not been entitled to be vaccinated under current DVA arrangements. While many vaccinations are not compulsory, vaccination is considered to be the most effective method of preventing infectious diseases.
As a whole of Government approach to preventative health and wellness, DVA will pay for overseas travel vaccinations provided within Australia for Gold Card holders from 01 August 2010.

Approved medical practitioners administering the overseas travel vaccinations can prescribe the clinically required vaccines on an Authority Script.
The medical practitioner will contact the Veterans’’ Affairs Pharmaceutical Advisory Centre (VAPAC) to obtain prior approval on the 24 hour prior approval free call number 1800 552 580.
Claims for Medical Expenses Privately Incurred (MEPI) for overseas travel vaccinations from 01 August 2010 will be processed through VAPAC as per current arrangements for all pharmaceutical MEPI claims.

The Australian Defence Community Forum
Marriott Hotel Surfers Paradise, Gold Coast 3rd & 4th March 2011

Working together to support the needs of the Australian Defence Community: past, present and future.

Target Community
The Australian Defence Community is a diverse group of people, both in age and experience. It consists of all current serving members of the Australian Defence Force and their families, as well as Australian and Allied ex-service men and women and their families living in Australia. Given the diversity of this Community, it has broad, complex and changing needs.

Inputs to the Forum
The point of difference of this Forum is that members of the Defence Community have the opportunity to shape the agenda. In advance of the Forum in March 2011, the Defence Community across Australia are invited to contribute their views and experiences to our online Case Studies.

This feedback will be collated and distributed to the delegates as pre-reading for the Forum, and will form the basis of the concurrent workshops in during the Forum.
